I wouldn't recommend trusting these people with your Google credentials. This is not a Google application.

According to google, all this gives them is your email address.

Well the Google accounts system (like OpenID) is supposed to provide distributed authentication, you will notice that the page in which you enter the Google Account login credentials is hosted on google.com This is very cool, even if it is not quite the same as a direct Google Account / OpenID compatibility. Also, it seems that the site uses some sample code from a Google App system http://code.google.com/p/google-app-engine-samples/wiki/GoogleAppEngineSamples

I think it's bad having OpenID url with plaintext email address embedded. Otherwise, good idea.

Not a bad idea, but will wait until hosted & promoted from Google proper.

Finally got my openid for gmail, but the directions are not very clear. Mine looks like: http://openid-provider.appspot.com/my.gmail.login replacing "my.gmail.login" with your actual login. Regarding plaintext email addresses, I say don't worry about, and let spam filtering take care of any problems. More public addresses will serve to dilute the value for spammers.

I agree with the spam filtering, works very well with GMail. This is one of those 'good' ideas that really needs making global. no more passport .net sites, for example, where one company controls all you do and does what it wants (now we have lots of companies that control what we do... erf!! )

I would wonder how it could be from "long term" point of view.

One more provider that doesn't accept OpenID's for their own login... Great!
